This conversation was happening in certain corners of our fandom long before the graphic novel art reveal took place yesterday. Much of the criticism also focuses on how that color (or, to be more specific, green skin) has anti-semitic connotations. There was concern we had failed to follow through on an opportunity to get better representation for Latinx listeners, instead opting to take a safe route, and make Taako a fantasy color without any kind of real-world connection. What we’ve heard most is disappointment that Taako is not realized in these pages as a person of color - or, to be more specific, a Latinx or explicitly Mexican character. More or less all of the criticism we’ve received centers on Taako, whose skin is a pale blue color in these designs. Us and the graphic novel team realized that, yes, that is extremely bad, went back to the drawing board, and had several long discussions about how to best rectify this situation, resulting in the artwork revealed yesterday. This artwork reveal came some months after the first reveal of some of our characters, for which we also received criticism of our three leads, all of whom were white in these initial designs. Yesterday, we revealed some pages for our graphic novel adaptation of the first Adventure Zone arc, and received some criticism of the direction we went with for Taako’s coloring. Zombie Dogs and Infected Police Officers frequently spawn in cities, making the exploration of cities a death sentence for weaker players. If the player is not stealthy or careful about killing zombies before exploring a City, they may find themselves under attack by an army of zombies comparable to a nighttime horde. The danger of cities is the large number of Zombies. Although as mentioned before the PS4 version is not having updates. There are usually cities at the center of randomly generated worlds, the central city is considered as part of the Wasteland biome, even when other biomes overlap the area. It’s a measure of comfort in a cold, dark world.Īlthough the world’s magical practices are diverse, appearing at first to be a kaleidoscopic array of random symbols and incoherent mutterings, if we dig a little deeper, we find common constitutive elements. Magic gave people an avenue to attain what their hearts desired-protection, divination, healing, luck, vengeance and, most of all, a sense of empowerment. Children are exercising matching, decision-making, good manners and language skills as they pour a cup of tea for a friend before themselves, decide where to place their treats, and chat it up at the tea party! Spinning the colors in the teacups by blowing or puffing the magical teapot were clearly highlights of the game as girls shared an age old custom of pouring their guests a cup of tea, delicately blowing on it to cool off and tipping it up for a sip as if sitting at the Plaza for their first real grown-up party! When kids transport themselves to an imaginary place, it activates language learning as they create their story.Magic is first and foremost a technology, a primeval tool that humans stumbled upon eons ago for accessing an invisible realm that they sensed held the key to their well-being. Place your treat on the matching colored Fairy Mistress’ plate, blow on your teacup to spin to a color directing you to collect all the treats on the matching colored Fairy Mistress’ plate, use the teapot to “pour tea” around the table allowing all the players to win treats, or collect a treat for good manners, keeping your elbows off the table or recently saying “please” and “thank you.” As one little player collected her good manners treat she proudly said, “That’s why I’m always keeping my elbows off the table!” This is clearly a standout offering that seamlessly integrates pretend play with fun, beginning game play. Flip over a treat to find a color, teacup, teapot or “Good Manners” pictured to give you directions. Start by spreading out the 36 treat tiles in including “a little key lime pie cupcake” and chocolate dipped strawberries, turn one over on your turn and follow the pictured directions. Don’t we girls just love a tea party with our own place setting, tea cup and Fairy Headmistresses to offer treats? Kids loved blowing on their teacup to spin the color wheel, practicing good manners with a curtsey, please or thank you, and squeezing the air puffer Teapot to make their tea spin. You will enjoy it all the more, if you have a knack for DIY and working with wood. Expect to be juggling wooden parts, tiny bolts, nuts and the screwdriver at the same time.ĭespite difficulties inherent to the assembling process, building LOFI robots is really rewarding. But creating them presents some manual challenges. Thanks to this solution, you get durable and inflexible joints. You use square-shaped nuts and cleverly designed incisions in wooden parts to make bolts pull elements together. Out of the two, perpendicular connections are more difficult to make. You need nuts and bolts to create two types of connectors: parallel and perpendicular ones. Fortunately, the kit contains a screwdriver.īuilding LOFI robots is quite demanding manually. To join these wooden parts together, you use tiny nuts and bolts. Codebox Starter: What’s inside the box?Īll LOFI products are made from Arduino-based electronic elements and laser-cut wooden parts. To answer these questions, we have taken a good look at the new robotics kit by LOFI. So what are the main pros and cons of Codebox by LOFI? How to use this robot in school education? Or does it work better in homeschooling? Our team was able to test out the basic kit and the expansions for several weeks. Producer also offers some additional elements, such as a voltmeter, or modules enabling Bluetooth communication. There are also two expansions available: Codebox Drive for building vehicles and Codebox TV – a simple, programmable LED screen. Now, you can purchase Codebox Starter, the base kit with electronics and construction elements. The new kit and new materials resolve this problem and actually make it feasible to use Codebox in class. Weaknesses of the previous kit, like the long time needed to assemble robots (that made it impossible to use Edubox during regular school classes), were taken into account already at the design stage. You see, Codebox is the result of lessons learned from the previous generation of LOFI robotics kit, Edubox. Let’s start by putting this kit in the most recent historical context. We decided to check this unusual educational tool and test LOFI Codebox ourselves. Especially when compared to other robotics kits designed for the same market segment. Made out of raw wooden elements connected with bolts, basic electronic modules and an Arduino controller, this educational tool is an interesting and price-competitive product. Aren't you curious how it will turn out?Ĭodebox by LOFI is a bare and straightforward tool for teaching robotics and programming. I typically increase the memory by adding: memory_limit = 512MĪgain, once applied, you’ll need to run valet restart & brew services restart 4. PHP memory_limit settings can be adjusted in this file: /usr/local/etc/php/7.x/conf.d/php-memory-limits.ini Once applied, you’ll need to run valet restart & brew services restart 3. I found the fix on a Github issue: Valet 2.0.3: 500 Bad Gateway (upstream sent too big header). To fix this, I needed to increase the proxy_buffer and fastcgi_buffer size for Nginx.Ĭreate ~/.valet/Nginx/all.conf and include:Īppend this to /usr/local/etc/nginx/fastcgi_params: This could mean a few things but seems Drupal was sending too many http requests which I’m guessing was caused by not having aggregation enabled for CSS and JS. Nginx / Valet - 502 Bad Gatewayĭrupal 8 was giving me the Nginx - 502 Bad Gateway error along with “upstream sent too big header while reading response header from upstream” which I found in the Nginx log. You can read more about TLDs for Testing from the Internet Engineering Task Force. Valet uses DnsMasq and appears to allow for only one TLD (top-level domain), so I went with. This way I could easily remove local or change it to dev to bring up the live or development website. org at the end of all my local host names, e.g. Here are a few issues I came across and wanted to share in hopes it will help someone else interested in switching to Valet. This is so easy compared to MAMP and it just works. Additionally I can set up a local cert for any site by typing valet secure example, and now I can go to. After which I could go to and get right to work. Simply cd to a sites docroot directory and type valet link example. This was a big requirement for me and a feature some of the alternatives I tried didn’t have. One feature that Valet (and MAMP Pro) has is the option to run a site from any directory. Valet doesn’t install a database so I had to brew install mariadb as well. We use Composer for working with Drupal and WordPress so that tool was ready to go on my machine. It requires using Homebrew to install PHP 7, which is easy enough, and Composer to install Valet. Given that most of our work is in Drupal or WordPress it was easy to see I came to the right place. The documentation page stated that Valet supported Drupal and WordPress, among others, right out of the box. Laravel’s Valet turned out to be a great and easy to use option. does all this fanciness out of the box!” I was like “well hell, now that sounds like MAMP to me”. Then I scrolled down to a commentator that said “Another great option is Laravel Valet. My first thought was, “that’s definitely not like MAMP ” and I’ve been through the whole local server install path before. It starts off by listing all the formulas I have to install using Homebrew caddy (of course), dnsmasq, php, along with configuring a Caddy. Particularly this one Local web development setup on a Mac. I started reading through their documentation about setting up a local hosting environment which later led me to their forums. One day I came across an open-source webserver called Caddy that looked very interesting to me. I had searched the internet and tried many alternatives to MAMP Pro but had no luck. I have to import databases locally all the time so this was driving me absolutely crazy. These crashes occurred when using terminal to import or export MySQL databases or when running the same database commands from phpMyAdmin. And after spending some time troubleshooting by deleting hosts to limit the number, uninstalling/reinstalling MAMP Pro, switching PHP mode to identical/individual versions, etc, it turned out that interacting with MySQL was causing the UI crashes. For me, the AMP (Apache, MySQL, and PHP) environment worked well, it was MAMP’s UI that would freeze and turn my cursor into a spinning beach ball accompanied by the message “Application Not Responding.” I would have to force quit and restart the app every time I needed to make a change. But after the release of version 5, MAMP Pro has been very buggy and annoying to use. We’ve been using MAMP Pro since version 1.x for most of our local testing and development. I expected garish over-sharpening, but somehow they have figured out a way to bring out details that goes beyond sharpening. I tried sharpening a few photos with this default and was blown away. I thought, wait a minute, why would they do that? I had rarely, if ever, used that option on my images. In addition to some fixes and somewhat different UI, it said the new default for soft images is "very blurry". Has anybody else tried it? I updated to it yesterday (actually 3.3.1 by the time I did it) and looked at the change log. I guess when I think about it I need light NR far more often than heavy. I kept Denoise because it was very good with high ISO. I've tried a lot of sharpening methods and still use some of them occasionally, such as high-pass, but Topaz beats them all IMO. And as you say, the motion stabilization works well when needed. Also, I use mostly zooms and especially at the long end they can be a little soft even when focused properly. As for sharpening, to me it's not so much saving out-of-focus images as adding an extra degree of presence. That's interesting I stopped using Denoise because Sharpen took care of that as well as sharpening! Also, I've started using DXO PureRAW to preprocess my images, and it does a great job on noise. I decided if I couldn’t get an in focus file to start with then I wouldn’t try to save it. I only seemed to use it for the Stabilize feature. I stopped using Sharpen because I relied on Denoise for that. |
